October was a fun-filled month of my brother Adam's wedding to his longtime girlfriend Katie, raking and playing in the leaves, visiting the apple orchard, having bonfires, a visit from Dylan for the weekend, and ended with trick-or-treating with some of our daycare friends. Ella dressed up as Abby Cadabby, the fairy in training from Sesame Street. Ethan wore the Elmo costume that Ella had worn two years ago. When she wore it, it fit her perfectly - not the case for our big boy! We had to take the elastic that goes under the feet and put it on top of his feet. He was a Tickle-me-Elmo for sure! We went around our friends' neighborhood in Rosemount, since our neighborhood isn't really conducive to trick-or-treaters. (There aren't really any kids in the neighborhood anyway!) Ella and Ethan were troopers, walking the whole way and going up to every door. After about two hours of walking around, we finally called it a night. Both of their buckets were pretty full!
November brought another visit from Grandpa and Grandma Meyer for a week. Jake and Grandpa went deer hunting for the weekend, and Grandma hung out with the kids and I. Ella started her "new preschool" through Hastings ECFE. It's an evening class once a week, and I get to stay with her. There is a different theme each week, and she is practicing her letters, numbers, colors, etc., while also getting to have storytime, snack time, and do projects. Ethan is usually in an adjoining room for sibling care. It took him a little longer to get adjusted to going. The first week he cried for about 10 minutes, the next week it was only a couple minutes. In recent weeks, he just goes in and starts playing! Thanksgiving came, and we went to Liz and Skip's for dinner. It was delicious as always, and the kids came home very tired. That weekend we put up the Christmas decorations, and George (the Elf on the Shelf) came to stay in our home. That made Ella "oh so very 'sited for Christmas!" She could hardly sleep!
December seemed to take forever, yet at the same time went very quickly! The kids searched for George daily - usually Ethan was the one to find him! - and they tried their best to be on good behavior. We went to visit the big guy (Santa) at Rosedale Mall with Auntie Jessie and her girls for Bailey's birthday. Bailey got her ears double pierced that day, and we thought for sure Ella would get her ears pierced too, but she decided to wait until Brianna gets hers done at 5 yrs. old so they can get them done together. We started our Christmas celebrations when Grandma & Grandpa Meyer flew in yet again from Georgia on the 16th. We celebrated with the Massicotte's on the 18th and then had Ella's first Church Christmas program on the 19th. That night we took the light-rail into Minneapolis to see the Holidazzle Lighted Parade. Both kids really enjoyed that! The week leading up to Christmas was very busy, as was the weekend of...we had somewhere to go or something to do just about everyday! The kids really did well with presents. Ella got the one thing she REALLY wanted - a Fur Real Go-go Puppy. Ethan got a Geo-Trax train set. The big hit, though, was a mini-trampoline. They both LOVE it! Despite not having naps the whole weekend, both kids were VERY well behaved!
That brings us pretty much up to date! Tomorrow is New Year's Eve. We will be staying home, just the four of us and the dog, probably having some popcorn and a "movie theater" as Ella calls it!
I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year!
